In our southern hemisphere, the regions situated between the parallels 32 and 35 are especially apt for the exploitation of the vine The Department of Paysandú is located precisely within this area of Uruguay. Its fertile and deep soils of calcareous origin and its sunny summers, make Paysandú an ideal area for the production of wines of excellent quality. From a geographical standpoint, one of the main characteristics of the country is being partially surrounded by water: the Atlantic Ocean on the East, the River Plate on the South and the Uruguay River on the West. Its climate is mild. The average annual temperature is 16.6 °C and the seasons are well marked with warm summers and cold winters with severe frosts. The weather conditions are very favorable for the production of high quality grapes, with an excellent alcoholic strength. The grape ripening process finishes in February, when the light is intense, there is less moisture in the air, the days are longer, and the harvested grapes have a good color and balanced aroma.
At present the winery plant occupies an area of 1,600 square meters, with a capacity of 850,000 liters. Wine containers are 90% stainless steel and the rest are made of reinforced concrete with its interior coated in enamel. These have been kept since the birth of the Winery. We also have French oak barrels which are the ones that have given birth to the newest line of the company: "Tannat Roble" and "Chardonnay Roble". Even when the principles of winemaking answer to a respect for the terruar they also play their part along with the most modern enological equipment and a technical and human group working hard towards obtaining terruarwines.
Location: Rute 90, kilometer 6.5, 131 Street . Soil: Calcareous, with an undulating topography, with slopes of 1.5 to 3.5% that contribute to a good hydric balance. Training system: Open Lyre. This system, one of the most modern in the world, is based on the fact that it provides the necessary structure to increase the solar dissemination and absorption capacity of the plants. In this way, it multiplies the exposed leaf surface. Aside from a meticulous management, this results in improving the quality of the grapes that will give birth to our Wines Varieties: Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Hamburg, Ugni Blanc.
Location: Route 90, kilometer 10 Soil: Given the proximity of the vineyards, the characteristics of the soils of “La Carolina” and “Kilómetro 10” are very similar. However, regarding the latter, we could add that in respect to its texture, it is lighter, which makes it easier to manage and improves drainage . Training system: Open Lyre Varieties: Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Isabella.
